Q&A with Makeup Artist, Mary Jane Frost
We caught up with Mary Jane Frost, an international makeup artist who has been the creator of looks behind some of the worlds most iconic faces including Princess Diana, Ava Green, Gemma Arteton, Orlando Bloom, Kylie Minogue, Georgia-May Jagger and Kate Moss. A big Skimono fan, we discussed all things beauty and more with Mary Jane below...
Hey Mary Jane, tell us a bit about yourself to start with:
I’ve worked in the fashion industry as a makeup artist for over 30 years.
How did you get into the beauty industry?
I worked my way up by assisting and working alongside the best people in the industry at that time.
What’s your earliest memory of beauty products?
My earliest beauty memories are from watching my mother look after her skin and apply her eye makeup.
The 3 makeup products you couldn’t live without?…and why?
My 3 makeup products I could not live without would be my eyelash clampers, foundation and lip gloss.
The 3 skincare products you couldn’t live without? …and why?
My 3 skincare products I could not live without would be my Extra moisturising masks , moisturiser and eyelash growth serum.
What do you like the most about the Skimono masks?
I have super dry skin naturally but this never shows because I use the Skimono moisturising masks regularly.
They really help to add loads of extra moisture to my skin care routine .
Where do you get your inspiration from?
My inspiration always comes from the people in my life , my friends , family and work colleagues.
Being able to help all women make the most of themselves is a Privilege.
Can you share with us the most important beauty advice you can give women?
The most important beauty advice I can give any woman is to work with what you have , never mind what everyone else is doing , beauty is personal and unique .
Work out what are your best attributes and work on bringing that out.
Also quality not quantity when it comes to makeup.
Favourite part about your job?
The best part of my job is the people I get to meet and work with as clients and as part of the team.
A lot of people have a preconceived idea about the fashion industry , but everyone I have had the pleasure of working with has been inspirational, charming , funny, talented and charismatic.
What are you currently reading?
I’m currently reading “ Tuesdays with Morrie” it was given to me by a friend it’s so sad but humbling at the same time .
When you aren’t fully immersed into the beauty world, what do you enjoy getting up to?
When I’m not working I’m with my children who are both teenagers and a constant source of entertainment!
My friends and I all share a love of good food and fine ingredients and cooking , eating and drinking is our favourite pastime .
